Piano Virus

Piano Virus is the group I am leading for my entire 3rd year. Over the course of both semesters, This group was tasked to create a game based on some social, environmental or political issue. We chose social media and how it effects the mental health of users.

After a week or two of ideation and iteration we settled on a final concept. We decided to make it in Godot and the game would take place on just 4 or 5 screens which would be moved between with the arrow keys. each screen would give the player some kind of information. The player needs to travel in their spaceship to create social media content and generate engagement so that the ship stays powered. They need to keep up with trends while managing their time so that the trends don’t change too quickly.

One Page Design Document

As the leader it was my job to create all the decision making and disciplinary pipelines required by the team. I decided to define major and minor decisions and make different requirements based on that classification I then did the same thing with offenses (any action which is bad for the group) and categorized them as severe or minor.

With those pipelines created I shifted my focus to sprints. Using Kanban boards to organize tasks and responsibility, I initiated the first sprint as a test. although not every task was complete I did learn so new information. If a person was not around for the beginning of the sprint, then they had no idea what was happening. So I needed to create a new column for any tasks that a person was confused about.

The next two sprints were for our proof of concept. This would solidify our Idea going into the second semester and so we decided to create a foundation for the following features to be added to. The two things we needed were a space for the player to control and move between screens. One screen would need to able to switch out for a control panel as well. Second, we needed a final level design to base the space off of. additionally, we needed some basic art assets and sound effects to really sell the sci fi feel we were going for.

Our first sprint focused on all the individual pieces of the proof of concept…

…and our second was all about consolidating all the pieces into a finished product

We completed our proof of concept and presented it along with some testing feedback. This concluded the first semester
